Distribution models on Setapp

Setapp currently supports two primary distribution models within the Setapp Marketplace:

  • Setapp Membership
  • Single-App Distribution

You can choose to participate in one of them or in both models in parallel.

Note: You can sell and distribute your apps on Setapp in addition to your other distribution channels.

Setapp Membership

Setapp Membership is a subscription model where users pay a single monthly fee to access a curated catalog of apps.

With Membership:

  • users subscribe once and get access to many apps
  • developers earn revenue based on app usage
  • apps are curated and balanced across the catalog

Membership remains a core part of Setapp and continues to evolve alongside new distribution options.

Single-App Distribution

Single-App Distribution allows users to purchase access to a specific app individually.

With Single-App Distribution:

  • users get a single app, not the full catalog
  • apps are available via direct one-time purchase or individual subscription

Single-App Distribution provides extra flexibility for pricing, positioning, and monetization.

Revenue share

Setapp supports different business models depending on the distribution method used.

Setapp Membership revenue model

  • Revenue is shared based on app usage
  • Developers receive 70% revenue share
  • Developers who bring subscribers to Setapp receive an additional +20% Partner fee, for up to 90% total revenue share

This model rewards sustained usage and long-term value within the Membership ecosystem.

Single-App Distribution revenue model

For apps distributed via Single-App Distribution:

  • Revenue is generated from direct app sales
  • Developers receive 85% revenue share on each sale

This model provides predictable per-sale revenue and supports both subscriptions and one-time purchases.
